“I work as a counselor and advocate to develop solutions that fit with my clients’ overall situation and their plans for the future.” –Tom Hargrove

As a senior partner at Pluymert, MacDonald, Hargrove & Lee, Ltd., Tom works as a counselor and advocate to develop solutions that fit his clients’ overall situation and plans for the future. With his years of experience with a wide variety of legal and business issues, the Hoffman Estates lawyer has been heavily involved with providing advice and counsel to professionals and businesses in a wide variety of industries. Tom realizes that solutions to many problems require the involvement of others who provide counsel to his clients, and often works alongside a client’s accountant or financial consultant.

Tom has successfully advocated for his clients before judges and juries, administrative hearing officers, arbitrators and mediators for more than two decades, and has experience in state, federal and administrative courts settings. He has practiced in both Illinois and Indiana, and has been admitted to practice before the Northern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana. Tom favors arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution forums because of their efficiencies and cost savings.

Prior to law school, Tom worked for several insurance companies as an adjuster, investigator, examiner, analyst and claim consultant. For more than 35 years, Tom has been involved in the investigation, analysis and adjustment of complex property losses and claims in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. Currently, he represents policyholders as both an advisor and advocate. He has significant experience in matters involved mobile and fixed properties (residential, commercial and industrial properties), and has an in depth understanding of business interruption and other time element losses. He provides counsel to his clients on risk transfer, the need for and analysis of proper insurance coverage before the loss, and assistance with adjustments after a loss occurs. Tom also has more than 25 years of experience in helping business enterprises with disaster recovery, including the minimization of loss, and the speedy return to normal business operations.

Tom received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University, and his law degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he concentrated on business issues and land use studies. He is married and has three adult children.

Since then, he has practiced as a general litigator with an emphasis on business and contractual disagreements, insurance coverage, employment matters and construction disputes of all kinds in both state and federal courts as well as in various mediation and arbitration forums.
