James H. Pluymert – Of Counsel
A graduate of Calvin College, James Pluymert received his law degree from DePaul University School of Law in 1981. Jim concentrates his practice in commercial litigation, church and not-for-profit law, and mediation and arbitration. He takes a proactive approach to liability claims by counseling companies and individuals about implementing strategies to reduce the risk of adverse claims. Jim has counseled churches in corporate formation, tax issues, employment, internal governance, and mergers. He helps pastors and church staff facing issues such as church discipline and liability, clergy confidentiality and privilege, and ecclesiastical disputes. He serves as an advisor to church board members regarding duties and liabilities and assists tax-exempt organizations with their tax status regarding charitable gifts and planned-giving. Jim is licensed to practice law in Illinois and in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Jim is active in ministry at Willow Creek Community Church and belongs to the Kane County Bar Association, and the Christian Legal Society. Jim is married and has a son and a daughter.
