What is the role of mediation in a divorce?
Often times parties are looking for alternative ways to resolve the differences that they may have in their marriage, including how can they amicably get a divorce done.
Often times what will happen is, the parties will already have attorneys and they will seek to have a mediator be involved to help them especially in issues pertaining to children. A mediator will often times get appointed by the court to help the parties work through issues that they are having as far as determining parental responsibilities, parenting time, any issues pertaining to say child support. Those are all issues that a qualified divorce mediator would be helping the parties to resolve.
Occasionally parties can also have financial matters mediated, but that tends to be a little more of an arduous process and it’s normally not handled in the mediation process.
