Hoffman Estates attorney Thomas W. Hargrove is a highly qualified counselor for clients facing all types of legal issues, from insurance coverage disputes to employment and business law. Tom has broad experience as a litigator in the state, federal and administrative courts and as a mediator in arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution forums. He is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Indiana, and has been admitted to practice before the Northern District of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana. He is married and has three children.
Tom received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University. Prior to law school, he worked for several insurance companies as an adjuster, investigator, claim examiner, claim analyst and consultant. Tor more than 30 years, Tom has been involved in the investigation, analysis and adjustment of complex property losses and claims in all 50 states, Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. These matters involved mobile and fixed properties including residential and commercial properties, restaurants, resorts and warehouse properties. He has been involved in claim dispositions totaling more than $300 million in insured property and time element losses.
Tom received his law degree from IIT Chicago-Kent College of Law where he concentrated on business issues and land use studies. Since then, he has practiced as a general litigator with an emphasis on business and contractual disagreements, insurance coverage, employment matters and construction disputes of all kinds in both state and federal courts as well as in various mediation and arbitration forums. He has broad experience in analyzing and evaluating contractual, statutory and regulatory rights and obligations in matters that affect most small to mid-size business.
As a senior partner at Pluymert, MacDonald, Hargrove & Lee, Ltd., Tom works as a counselor and advocate to develop solutions that fit his clients’ overall situation and plans for the future. With his years of experience with a wide variety of legal and business issues, the Hoffman Estates lawyer has been heavily involved with providing advice and counsel to professionals and businesses in a wide variety of industries. Tom also has more than 25 years of experience in helping business enterprises with disaster recovery, including the minimization of loss, rescue and recreation of damaged business records, and the return to normal business operations. Tom’s employment law practice focuses on preventative measures and regulatory compliance with government agencies at both the state and federal level in such areas as Equal Employment, Wage and Overtime Issues, Family and Medical Leave Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act. He is a veteran when it comes to termination issues, employee handbooks, employment agreements, and restrictive covenants related to employment and contractual relationships.
