Alfred S. Lee
Alfred S. Lee earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College where he was selected a Presidential Scholar. He subsequently obtained his law degree from the University of Notre Dame. While in law school, Al served as President of the Christian Legal Society, and through CLS, Alfred was first introduced to the firm. He joined the firm as an equity partner in 2014.Al concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and administration and asset protection/bankruptcy.
Al serves individuals and family businesses by preparing wills, trusts and other estate planning documents so that those assets are protected and preserved in a manner consistent with the client’s wishes. He makes sure that his clients don’t walk away with a bunch of forms to complete, but goes the extra mile to make sure that a plan is in place. Once the initial plan is put in place, Al often works with his clients to make the appropriate changes as their lives and needs evolve.
Al serves a wide spectrum of clients, from those who have basic needs to those who require more complex estate planning. Al works not only with those who need a basic plan for family and children, but he also creates and implements more complex estate plans that involve family limited partnerships, grantor retained annuity trusts, charitable lead trusts, and irrevocable life insurance trusts.
In addition, Al counsels clients on how to protect their assets during their lifetime. He directs clients on ways to structure their estate planning to protect their assets from unforeseen liabilities such as a lawsuit that arises from an accident or business activities. He also helps clients who have encountered financial difficulties because of a job loss, medical bills, and business downsizing.
Al works with clients to develop a strategy that is custom fit for their particular financial situation. This may involve assisting a client with filing a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Realizing that bankruptcy is a remedy of last resort, Al will strive to first pursue all other non-bankruptcy options including negotiating with individual creditors, winding down a business, and/or creating a plan to allow more time for the client to see if their financial situation may improve.
Al enjoys working with clients to empower them by highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of each decision. Al often speaks at seminars and has been invited to train other attorneys in the basics of both estate planning and bankruptcy. He is also frequently asked to present estate planning seminars for employees at local businesses and federal employees who are planning for retirement.
He has focused in these areas since 1996, and is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Indiana. He is a member of the Lake County Bar Association, National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys, American Bar Association, and Kingdom Advisors.
Al is married with two children. He loves baseball and (Cubs Win! Holy Cow! Cubs Win!)
He is also active in his church and several non-profit organizations.
